Everybody seems to be talking about the newest NBA sensation Jeremy Lin these days, even SU Head Basketball Coach Jim Boeheim. Specifically Boeheim is chiming on whether or not the return of Carmelo Anthony from a groin injury will disrupt the "Lin-sanity" that has seen the Knicks guard average over 24 points over the last six games.
"For somebody to assert that Carmelo Anthony can't play with somebody, it's the most ridiculous statement that I've ever heard," Boeheim told ESPN's Outside the Lines, "we won a National Championship, he had 10 points in a game on the way to the Final Four and was the happiest guy in the locker room after the game. He won a gold medal in the Olympics when he was playing with Kobe and Lebron and those guys and he fit in just like a glove, so I don't see any question, when Carmelo comes back he'll help the Knicks get better."
Anthony, meanwhile, says he's upset with opinions coming out that he would be unable to co-exist successfully with Lin. "That's like a slap in the face," Anthony told ESPN, "None of my teammates I've ever played with would say that I was a selfish player. Nobody."
Boeheim says he's been able to watch a few of Lin's games that he's played on TV, and seems to agree that the Harvard graduate is something special.
"He's going by people, he's making shots from the perimeter, he's finishing," observes Boehiem, "six games is a little too soon to judge what this guy is gonna be but based on his six games, how many guys have started six games like that, or even look at like a Chris Paul or Darren Williams, how many times have they had six games in a row like this."
