For one of the most historic basketball teams in our area, it was a day the community will never forget. Fittingly, on St. Patrick's Day, The Bishop Ludden Gaelic Knights won a New York State Championship.

Ludden beat Watervliet in dramatic fashion 43-42, in order to capture the Class B Crown. Ben Hackett scored 14 points and Cameron Littlejohn had 12 in the victory, which saw a last second heave from Watervliet fall just short.

They weren't the only new champions in our area, the Sackets Harbor boys team won the Class D Championship as well. Zach Allen scored 18 points to help pace Sackets Harbor in its 48-35 win over Madrid-Waddington.

In Girls Basketball it's not back-to-back championships for Cicero North Syracuse. The Northstars defeated Penfield from Section V 62-48 on Saturday. Brittany Paul led the way with 23 points, and the Gatorade Player of the Year Breanna Stewart scored 13 points with 13 rebounds.

Jamesville-Dewitt and Little Falls' boys team fell in today's championships. For J-D the loss snapped a bid at 5 straight New York State Championships.
