Central New York basketball teams starred last weekend, as the Syracuse Orange advanced to the Sweet Sixteen and three Section III basketball teams won state titles.
The Cicero-North Syracuse girls basketball team won the Class AA title, the Sackets Harbor boys team won the Class D title, and the Bishop Ludden Gaelic Knights won the Class B title. All of those teams will now play in the Federation Tournament in Albany this weekend.
Obviously, each team has a great legion of fans in Central New York, but Bishop Ludden's success reached a fan whose pedigree is better than most. Dirk Nowitski of the NBA defending champion Dallas Mavericks congratulated the Ludden boys today in a Youtube video, even mentioning Bishop Ludden head coach Pat Donnelly.
