The State Champs enter the Bishop Ludden gym.
It's been two weeks since they won it, and 18 years since their last state championship.
So you knew Bishop Ludden would honor their boys varsity basketball team in style.
That's just what they did on Friday as the Class B State Champions entered the gym to a roaring ovation, delivering one of the most storied programs in Central New York its 2nd state championship in history.
Ludden captured that title by defeating Watervliet of Section II 43-42 in dramatic fashion in Glens Falls and it marked the latest chapter of success for the Gaelic Knights, who have won 16 Section III Championships, more than any other program in Central New York.
"All of the letters and the cards that I've gotten from alumni, past parents, it just makes you feel really good about what we've done here. But it's all because of what's happened in the past, we build on tradition and hope to keep it alive" said Head Coach Pat Donnelly.
The future of that tradition looks bright as well, the Gaelic Knights return plenty of young talent. Three starters on this years team were either a sophomore or a freshman. Those players now have a state title under their belt and rest assured have their sights set on another run at Glens Falls.
"Let's make another run at it next year!" Donnelly told an excited crowd as he finished his thank you speech at the podium.
Safe to say, while celebrating this year's achievements, the team is already planning on bringing the 2013 crown back to Ludden.
