The SU Lacrosse team may have finished the regular season with a 7-7 record, but they're ready to start fresh this week at the Big East Tournament.
"It's pretty much a fresh start this week," said Tim Desko before practice on Tuesday, "Our playoffs start this week so it's pretty much win or go home."
The Orange dropped out of the USILA coaches' poll this week after an 8-6 regular season finale loss to Notre Dame over the weekend. Their NCAA tournament chances also diminished with that loss, leading many to believe the Orange now need to win the Big East Tournament outright in order to avoid missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007.
"I think we're looking at it more as an opportunity then life or death," explains Head Coach John Desko, "I'd rather go in with our guys and say this is a good opportunity for us to play a team that's beat us during the year. I think we can do better this time, and it gives us an opportunity to get to the Big East Championships, and if we get to the Big East Championships we're in the NCAA's."
"We're all pretty confident that we're going to be able to put together a full sixty munites of lacrosse and just come out and really take it to them. We just need to work hard leading up to that."
The Orange play Villanova in the Big East semifinal on Thursday night, with the winner taking on either Notre Dame or St. John's in the tournament title game on Saturday.
