The Westhill boys golf team won the Section III Tournament today with a total score of 401 beating the 2nd place team South Jefferson by four strokes. The Warriors are also sending four players to the regionals Thursday at Seven Oaks in Hamilton. Those players, Ryan Conroy, Mike Marshall, Nate Miesner, and Andy Vadnais fired a 78 and three 79’s respectively.
Head Coach Jay Clavijo is proud of his team for accomplishing so much. “It was fabulous, I was pacing by the scoreboard like an expectant parent waiting and when the first four scores came in, I knew we were just two players away from making this a reality” Clavijo said.
Dan North from Ilion and Ryan Clark from South Jefferson had the overall low score, firing a 76 at Kanon Valley.
It's just another fantastic achievement for the undefeated Warriors, who made sure to tell me the work isn't done with a May 29 matchup against Marcellus at Tuscarora coming up, but for a team that already set a team, and probable Section III record with a 173 5-man team score last Friday the 2012 campaign has been special.
