It was a banner day for Rome Free Academy as the girls golf team won two Section III championships.
The team won the overall crown, by four shots in Division One, while junior Nicolette Darios won the individual championship by just one shot over Rachel Halwig from Holland-Patent.
Darios fired an 81 at Fox Fire on Tuesday, enough to win the Section III Championship and earn a sponsors exemption in the upcoming Credit Union Classic of the Symetra Tour at Drumlins July 23-29.
Darios says she's "nervous" for the opportunity, but absolutely honored by it.
"This is just such an accomplishment. Golf is really like my life, it's what I do all summer, it's what I look forward to and I want to play college golf and this will help with that" says Darios.
Jamesville-Dewitt won the Division II championship.
There was another special moment, when Fayetteville-Manlius senior Meghan Kingsley scored a hole-in-one on the par-3 17th hole at Fox Fire. She used an 8-iron on the 120 yard hole.
