Rain may have delayed the start of the Section III Championship action on Tuesday, but when the games finally got started, the excitement never wavered.
Starting with the first game of the day, rivals Skaneateles and CBA traded goals, and leads for that matter, the entire game. The Lakers held a two-goal advantage over CBA midway through the 2nd half. The Brothers though responded, and two consecutive goals from Harvard-bound Marisa Romeo helped to seal the deal. The game winner from Romeo came with just over four minutes to play.
With the win, CBA advances to the New York State Playoffs, and will meet the Section X champion on Thursday at SUNY Canton. This marks the 8th year in a row CBA and Skaneateles met in the Sectional playoffs, Skaneateles won the first six meetings, and of course CBA who won the state title last year, won the last two.
In Class A, West Genesee defended its home stadium defeating Liverpool with ease 19-5.
The game was close early, with the Wildcats seeing their 2-0 lead cut in half by a goal from Mallory O'Brien, but in the end the Wildcats were too much and they secured the victory.
Kara Dattellas scored 5 goals, and helped West Genny earn the right to represent Central New York against the rest of the Empire State.
The Class B Championship, originally scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Tuesday was postponed due to the early 90 minute lightning delay.
That game between Oswego and Fulton is now set to go for 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at West Genesee
