It may be July next week, but a local basketball team hopes to capture a national championship.

The "Syracuse Nets" 12 year old girls AAU team heads to Tennessee on Monday in hopes of winning a national crown. This isn't unfamiliar territory for the girls who placed 6th out of 61 teams in last year's championships.

The team was full of excitement this week in their last practice before leaving for the Volunteer State, and every girl we talked to said they loved the game and their parents passion for the roundball to thank for it.

That excitement was evident with a pre-game ritual and the atmosphere at practice.

You can follow the girls via their website and we'll post updates throughout the championships!
