The Baldwinsville Little League softball team did something no squad in B'ville has done in over a dozen years- win a District 8 championship.

The team, known as the "Fire Bees" since its comprised of players from both Phoenix (known as the Firebirds) and B'ville, won the District 8 crown last week and now has its sights set on the New York State title this weekend.

The age range for this league is 14-16 years old, and by all accounts its a very young team which makes the win all the more impressive and should bode well for the future of Baldwinsville softball in its age group.

Mackenzie April, a pitcher for the Fire Bees says this whole summer, softball filled, has been a real treat.

"It was amazing, we all hugged and it was incredible because we've never made it this far in a really long time" April said of Baldwinsville's District 8 championship.

The state tournament is in Haverstraw, south of West Point in the Hudson Valley.
