The Future of the LPGA is getting ready to tee off on Friday as the Credit Union Classic Presented by Wegmans gets going at Drumlins Country Club. The Symetra Tour returns to Syracuse for the 17th straight year, a 144-player event offering a purse of $100,000 with $15,000 going to the tournament winner.
"It's fun," says television's "Big Break" winner Marcelo Leon about Drumlins Country Club, "its a golf course that has a lot of birdie opportunity. I like that. My plan it to pretty much one shot at a time. Try to put myself out there. Make as many birdie's as I can and hopefully be on the leader board."
Former LPGA Tour member Sara Brown recently won the 2012 My Marsh Golf Classic in Fishers, Ind., and is 7th on the Symetra Tour's money list. She says she loves playing in Syracuse, and finds the overall experience even more enjoyable now that the LPGA has taken ownership of the tour.
"It's more professional, says Brown, "its a professional event, you know there's ropes and there's tents. There's eight tents on the eighteenth hole for the VIP people and I think where selling a lot more tickets and there's a lot more fans out here. We definitely like that. It helps us. It gets us used to playing in front of fans like it is on the LPGA."
The first group will tee off on Friday morning at 7:45 AM, while the second group will tee off around 12:30 PM. The final round is slated for Sunday, and the experienced golfers know what it will take to conquer Drumlins.
"I think in any week you have to keep the ball in play," says New York native Nannette Hill, "The greens are good so there are a lot of birdie opportunity's. its a fun golf course."
