It's something that becomes more impressive every single year. Something that boggles the mind even more with every passing year, and in turn, every added trophy.
The Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Cross Country team won its 7th, yes, 7th consecutive National Championship on Saturday at the Nike Cross Nationals in Oregon.
The Hornets were paced by Jillian Fanning and Jillian Barger who finished 21st and 22nd overall, but the overall team strength provided by Fanning, Barger, Katie Brislin, Alana Pearl, and Jenna Farrell were enough to vault the Hornets to the top spot, along with Annika Avery and Michelle Duffy. Every year since 2006 the Hornets have captured a National Championship, and when you actually ponder just how many high schools field cross-country teams in the United States, the feat becomes that much more impressive.
The Boys F-M Cross Country team finished 16th as a team nationally, Nick Ryan turned in the 15th best time overall.
The Hornets return home this coming week, and in what is becoming a December tradition in Manlius the Hornets will most likely field a celebration honoring their sectional, state and now national championship teams.
