The Syracuse Football team added 19 new players on Wednesday, first year head coach Scott Shafer officially announced his first recruiting class. It's a group of young players he hopes will be a big part of his team's future in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Shafer didn't have all that much time to assemble his 2013 class, was hired on January 9 when Doug Marrone left to become the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, but says he's happy about his new young players and where this program is headed.
"We spent the last few weeks doing a good job of putting together a great class of young men who we think can help us win games here at Syracuse," Shafer said. "I'm really excited about this class because it represents high character men who really love that game of football and treat it with respect. I was proud of the way they operated on the signing date. I think you guys will be excited to meet these kids when they get on campus."
The offensive line got a major boost adding four players, while Shafer also got boosts to his receiving corps, defensive line and linebacker unit with three additions to each. Shafer and his staff also added two of defensive backs, two tight ends and a pair of quarterbacks.
The class includes players from across the country, including four players from Florida, two each from New York, California and Illinois, along with players from nine other States.
