We probably could've waited a year to make F-M's John Schurman our CNY Central Athlete, since he's a junior still in high school.

But he's just that good, that we couldn't wait any longer.

The 6'6" junior has already eclipsed the 1,000 point barrier and has his sights set on even bigger goals for the rest of the season.

You see, Fayetteville-Manlius is in the Section III semifinals on Saturday and if they are to beat Utica-Proctor they'll need Schurman's on court prowess and leadership ability too.

"They say basketball players are man-made, they're not born. And that's really true." says Schurman about his work ethic.

"It's a lot of work in the summer, a lot of the work when noone's watching, and it's gratifying" Shurman added.

So while Shurman's average of 20.8 points per game will certainly help the Hornets as they compete for a Section III and maybe even a New York State title, that attitude he displays every day will inspire his teammates and carry the Hornets as far as they'll go.

Congratulations to John Shurman, this week's CNY Central Athlete.
