The traditional Central New York basketball matchup was as competitive as it's been in years in the early going, but Syracuse beat Colgate for the 47th straight time on Sunday with an 87-51 win. Michael Carter-Williams collected a season high 13 assists, and added eight points in what was also the 25th straight win at the Carrier Dome for the Orange. Carter-Williams also contributed with six rebounds and just one turnover. He assisted on nine of the Orange's first 10 baskets on the game.
"We played a good half and my teammates were knocking down shots," says Carter-Williams, "so it made it look easy for me. I just try to make it easy for them."
"He did a great job and he's getting a lot better at it," says senior James Southerland, "He's doing a good job looking for teammates. I've seen a big in him difference within the past couple of games. He could score as much as he wants, but it's good he's looking for his teammates."
Southerland led the Orange with 18 points. Brandon Triche finished with 15 points, while his former Jamesville-Dewitt teammate freshman Dajuan Coleman had a career-high 12 points.
"I feel really good," said Coleman after the game, "just getting a couple of games out of the way. I feel really comfortable down there when I get the ball and I just play my game."
It's going to take some time," said head coach Jim Boeheim about his freshman center, "everybody has to be patient. With big guys especially, it takes a little time, but our big guys are playing well and they're going to keep getting better. I like the way they're playing and they'll keep getting better."
Rakeem Christmas had 10 points and nine rebounds for Syracuse.
