SYRACUSE -- The Christian Brothers Academy football team is back at practice this week, focusing on filling the voids left by players who have moved on. Cameron MacPherson, brother of Syracuse center Macky MacPherson, will suit up for Georgetown University this fall, while Ben Barrett and Evan Adamo are among other notable seniors that have also graduated.
In spite of losing all that talent, Coach Joe Casamento put a positive spin on what might be a tough loss other teams. "We're not very big or very deep, but we have talent. We're a talented team."
Senior Joe Pascarella attributes an improvement at certain skill positions to the reason the team will succeed. "I think we're a lot faster this year." He said. "The run game is a lot better this year, and so is the passing game. I think we're strong at both positions."
Senior Ben Capella is particularly excited about the team's chances this year: "We're going to pick up right where we left off."
CBA made it all the way to the Section III Title Game last year against West Genesee, where they fell short. After coming that close, one might think that the team would be hungry to get back to the title game, but they have a more grounded approach, thanks to Coach Casamento: "Every team wants to go to the sectional championship and be the champion. We're just trying to come out here and deal with the process and not look at the goal. If we're good enough, we'll be there."
