SYRACUSE -- Cheers reverberated throughout the Carrier Dome Friday night, as high school football teams fought for Section III championships in their respective classes.

In the first of two games Friday night, Sandy Creek kept their undefeated season alive by defeating Westmoreland 26-21, winning the Class D crown. Down 21-20 late in the fourth quarter, Sandy Creek's John Shirley took advantage of a Westmoreland turnover, running in the go-ahead touchdown to give his team the lead, which they never vanquished.

In the Class A championship, Jamesville-Dewitt and Nottingham battles in a tight one throughout, with the Bulldogs pulling off a 14-7 upset of the undefeated Red Rams. J-D took a 7-6 lead into halftime, a lead they held in the third quarter as well, until Nottingham's Marty Clanton ran it in from one yard out, giving the Bulldogs their first sectional title since 1980.

On Saturday, three more titles will be decided.

In Class AA, Christian Brothers Academy will play Baldwinsville at 3pm.
In Class B, Chittenango will play Cazenovia at 6pm.
In Class C, Skaneateles will play Herkimer at 12pm.
