WINNEBAGO, NE (AP) -- Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain is spreading some Christmas cheer at St. Augustine Indian Mission in Winnebago.
The 24-year-old visited the school on Friday, delivering Yankees lunch boxes, stadium pennants and "In Joba We Trust" hats to all the students. Teachers got gifts that ranged from signed balls to hats and T-shirts.
Chamberlain is a member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska and attended the school, which holds classes for kindergartners through eighth-graders.
The pitcher told the children it takes a lot of practice to be good as something, but don't give up.
In return, he was presented with a quilt and a Yankees medallion.
Chamberlain pitched for the University of Nebraska before being drafted by the Yankees in 2006.
