For the first time since 2006, Syracuse has defeated the #1 team in the nation.
Thanks to a furious second half rally, and a key play by Michael Carter-Williams, Syracuse defeated #1 Louisville 70-68 at the KFC Yum! Center In Louisville Saturday.
The game was back and forth throughout, and a couple times Louisville opened healthy leads, but paced by Brandon Triche's 23 points the Orange always had the answer.
Trailing 68-67, Syracuse played stifling defense as Louisville looked to run down the clock with 40 seconds left but Michael Carter-Williams intercepted a pass and took it all the way down for a huge dunk and a one point Syracuse lead.
Carter-Williams made a big free throw down the stretch and the Orange defense held to preserve the 2 point win for Syracuse.
Jamesville-Dewitt grad Brandon Triche scored 23 points in the winning effort while Carter-Williams scored 16.
The Orange improves to 17-1 and its win over the #1 team is the first time that's happened since a 2006 Big East Tournament win over #1 Connecticut.
SU's next game is against Cincinnati in the Carrier Dome at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
