It was better late than never at Super Dirt Week on Saturday, the 150 lap 358-Modified race started about two hours late because of a wet track, but nothing the drivers haven't seen before.
"It gets a little interesting you know, it can get a little slippery," says former Super Dirt Week Champ Kenny Tremont, "but you just try to race accordingly."
The close to two thousand dirt car fans camping at the New York State Fairgrounds didn't seem to mind the delay, as it gave them more of an opportunity to soak in the atmosphere of what is the marque dirt car racing event in Northeastern United States.
"This is beautiful," says Kathy Horton who travels in every year from New Jersey to take in the event, "we have a lot of fun, we drink, we eat, we play, we party."
"It's a great event in that aspect," agrees two time champion Stewart Friesen, "everybody goes out at night and enjoys themselves, there was a big DJ here at the infield bar last night that we enjoyed for a while it's cool just a great event with a lot of good friends."
"We love the parties," added Multi Super Dirt Week Champ Billy Decker, "we love the camping, we love what gies on and it's not just a race, it's an event here at Super Dirt Week."
The Super Dirtcar Big-Block Modified Series Championship is slated for Sunday, paying out fifty-thousand dollars to the winner.
