CORTLAND -- Cortland will play host to the New York Jets’ training camp beginning Friday. In order to get ready for this first-time event, city employees have been sprucing things up around town. They aren’t the only ones getting Jets fever, however. Local restaurants and businesses are also gearing up for the green and white. According to Jim Dempsey, who is the director of the Cortland County Convention and Visitors Bureau, some places are adding additions to their menus that are Jets-themed.
Hotels are seeing an increase in room reservations and the visitors bureau is hoping to see that turn into dollars for the community. They are estimating 2,000 people will come to the training camp each day. That could work out to be somewhere around $4 million in extra money for the local economy.
If all goes well, locals hope the Jets will want to come back again next year.
