SU womens basketball team races to big lead- but falls to #2 Notre Dame

The Syracuse Orange womens basketball team is already enjoying its best season in program history.

It almost earned a program defining win on Tuesday night.

Syracuse (#22/20) raced out to a 15 point lead over #2 Notre Dame on the road before eventually giving way to a 79-68 Irish victory.

The Orange, held a 36-21 lead before Notre Dame eventually closed the gap to three at halftime.

The Irish eventually earned a double digit lead of their own before Syracuse showed heart closing the deficit to just six before falling in the end.

SU is still 22-5 on the year and is next in action Saturday hosting Villanova at 3 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.
