SYRACUSE -- Several more Section III teams punched their tickets to the State Finals on Wednesday night.
In the Class B title game it was Eric De John leading the way for the Red Rams with four goals and an assists as Jamesville-DeWitt beat Auburn 11-8. The Maroons had their most successful quarter in the fourth, scoring four goals and getting the game to within two. But J-D was able to hold on for the win despite Andrew Chadderdon's three goals for Auburn.
In the Class C final, Skaneateles knocked off the defending champions LaFayette with an 18-11 victory. Kevin Rice scored five goals and an assist for Skaneateles, while Kyle Baier scored three goals and chipped in two assists. Paul O'Donnel also notched six points for the winners with one goal and five helpers. Lyle Thompson managed seven points with three goals and four assists for LaFayette in a losing cause.
In high school baseball action, Westhill avenged a controversial game with Bishop Ludden earlier this season with a 10-2 Sectional Championship win over the Gaelic Knights at Alliance Bank Stadium. Kevin McAvoy gave up just one run on seven hits through six innings pitched, while Nate Nigolian went 2-4 with two RBI and a home run for Westhill.
Auburn won the Class AA Sectional Championship with a 7-2 win over Liverpool. Steve Komanecky gave up just two runs on two hits over six and two-thirds innings pitched.
Liverpool softball made up for the baseball loss with a 3-1 semifinal victory over West Genesee in the Class AA Semifinal.
