Baldwinsville Senior Lauren Petty is the Section III Girls Golf Champion after firing a 76 at Foxfire Golf Course on Tuesday.

Lauren played great  golf all day, but essentially sealed the deal with a birdie on the 122-yard par 3 17th hole. For Lauren it's been a long time coming, she's finished in 2nd place each of the last two years and finally breaks through on her last chance with the title.

"It feels great just to be the winner" Petty says. "To know all of my hard work and practice paid off, and it was fun" she added.

With the victory Lauren clinches a spot in the Alliance Bank Golf Classic of the Futures tour, that event is at Drumlins later this summer.

Her coach, Karen Schmidt was beaming after knowing one of her players pieced together a round most golfers, let alone high school players can only dream about. "I think it's extremely impressive." Schmidt says. "Lauren works on her game year round and to play with the pressure of the Section III Tournament...I think it's impressive to take that pressure and play well consistently on a day like today" she added.

Petty edges Larissa Carter of Auburn who also played brilliantly with a 78, and last year's champion Mary Fletcher from CBA who fired an 82.

While Petty is the champ, Carter, Fletcher and 7 others are all headed to the New York State Tournament to represent Central New York against the rest of New York State.

Fayetteville-Manlius won the Section III Team Championship with a combined score of 355, just edging CBA by two strokes.
