SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The postseason honors continued to roll in for seniors John Lade (Randolph, N.J.) and John Galloway (Syracuse, N.Y.) on Friday, May 27. A day after being named first-team All-Americans by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), Lade won the organization's William C. Schmeisser Award as the nation's best defenseman, and Galloway received the group's Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Award for the second straight year as the nation's top goalkeeper.

Lade is the fourth player in school history to win the Schmeisser Award, joining Pat McCabe (1990), Marshall Abrams (2000) and John Glatzel (2002). He appeared in 15 games in 2011 and ranked third on the team with 22 caused turnovers. Lade also collected 29 ground balls while usually marking the opposing team's top attackman.

Among Lade's impressive defensive feats this season was holding Siena's Bryan Neufeld scoreless during the NCAA Tournament, snapping Neufeld's nation-leading 52-game point streak. In addition, he shut out Johns Hopkins attackman Chris Boland in a 5-4 double-overtime victory against the Blue Jays.

After spending his 2008 rookie season at Villanova, Lade transferred to Syracuse and started all 45 games he played for the Orange from 2009-11.

Galloway is the only goalie in Syracuse history to receive the Kelly Award, taking home the honor in 2010 and winning it again this season. In addition, he's the reigning two-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and a finalist for the 2011 Tewaaraton Award as the college lacrosse player of the year.

Galloway recorded 147 saves, a.572 save percentage and broke his own school record with a 6.70 season goals-against average in 2011. He finishes his career as the NCAA all-time leader in wins (59) and minutes played (3,776). His 7.31 career goals-against average is the seventh-best mark in NCAA history.

Known as one of the great clearing goalies of all-time, Galloway also registered two assists this past season.

In addition to Lade and Galloway, two other players were honored by the USILA Friday. Cornell's Rob Pannell won the Lt. Col. J.I. (Jack) Turnbull Award (nation's top attackman) and the Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award (nation's most outstanding player). Kevin Crowley (Stony Brook) was the recipient of the Lt. Donald C. MacLaughlin Jr. Award as the country's top midfielder.

Syracuse finished the year with a 15-2 overall record and claimed its second straight BIG EAST regular-season title. In addition, the Orange reached the NCAA quarterfinals for the 29th time before losing to Maryland, 6-5, in overtime.
