Christian Brothers Academy raised a few eyebrows with its opening weekend win over Baldwinsville, but in week 2 it was hoping to raise a whole bunch of eyebrows.
That's because the Brothers, took on Mansfield. A team they literally had less than half as many players as. The defending state champions, no less, Mansfield led CBA by double digits late before the Brothers forced a wild finish, only to fall 31-26 in this week's Toyota High School Game of the Week.
CBA was down 25-14 entering the 4th quarter, and narrowed the gap to 25-20 before Cam MacPherson hit Evan Adamo for the go ahead touchdown with about 6 minutes to play. Adamo's heroics weren't done though, the next posession after the interception he intercepted Mansfield quarterback George Busharis and returned it to the Mansfield 20 yard line. From there, though the Brothers drive stalled and Mansfield took over, turning their posession into a 27 yard go ahead touchdown of their own, making it 31-26 in favor of the visitors. CBA threatened to retake the lead, and the game in the final minute but ultimately fell short.
Certainly the Brothers have nothing to hang their head over, playing with passion and orchestrating a valiant comeback, and the rest of New York State should be on alert for what the Brothers bring to the table here in 2011. They host Nottingham next week at 7pm
