The Syracuse Orange Basketball team have been ranked # 5 in the very first USAToday ESPN Coaches poll of the season, just one notch back of the Uconn Huskies who were voted in to the # 4 position. The poll was released just one day after Syracuse and Connecticut were picked as pre-season co-champions of the Big East by the Conference's Head Coaches.
SU and UConn were two of three Big East teams picked in the top ten of the National Coaches Poll, with Louisville voted in as the 8th ranked team. Other Big East teams in the top 25 were Pittsburgh at # 11, Marquette at # 21 and Cincinnati at # 22. North Carolina is ranked # 1 with 30 first place votes. Kentucky is ranked # 2 and received the only other first place vote.
