The Section III Championship action hit a fever pitch on Saturday night in Central New York.
Three more Section III Champions were crowned in football, as West Genesee topped CBA in a barnburner at the Carrier Dome for the Class AA title. In a back-and-forth affair, West Genny led 28-14, only to see CBA knot it up at 35 apiece with just over 9 minutes to play in the game. But in those final 9 minutes West Genesee scored 22 points, en route to a 57-35 victory and the school's first Section III title since 2007 and the first with Joe Corley as its head coach.
Herkimer won it all in Class C, beating Utica Notre Dame 28-14.
The nightcap at the Carrier Dome saw the dream season for Chittenango continue, as the Bears scored on its first posession of the game when Devin Phillips hooked up with Devin Christopher to give Chittenango an early touchdown lead. That lead swelled to 21-0 before Oneida fought back, but in the end the Bears won the Class B Championship 35-14.
It was a busy day elsewhere in Section III too.
Cazenovia, the defending state champions in field hockey, won its second consecutive Section III championship, by way a 3-1 victory over Mount Markham. Mount Markham scored first, but Jillian Vogl responded promptly for the Lakers, and Caz never looked back, and the quest to repeat as state champions continues.
In Class D Field Hockey, Morrisville-Eaton continued to be one of the premiere teams in the section as they beat out Saquoit Valley 2-1 in an overtime thriller. In Class B, it's Camden that earns the right to represent Central New York against the rest of the state, 2-1 winners over V-V-S. For the big schools, perennial power Liverpool advances to the state tournament with a 2-1 win over RFA.
For Boys Soccer, upstart 7th seeded Marcellus saw its Cinderella run to the Section III Class B title game come to an end when top-seeded Clinton defeated the Mustangs 2-1. Hamilton beat Cincinnatus, and Old Forge took out Remsen 4-1.
