Syracuse NY- The Syracuse Silver Knights were unable to capitalize on a late possession, losing to the Milwaukee Wave 15-13 in front of 2,437 at the War Memorial on Friday.
Syracuse opened the scoring early and had a 4-0 lead five minutes into the game. Nelson Santana opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, and was followed moments later when Andriy Budnyy found the net on Ryan Pierce’s cross.
The Silver Knights were able to keep up with the defending champion Wave throughout the night, going two for two on power plays. The Silver Knights’ leading scorers both found the net on the night, with Slavisa Ubiparipovic (42 pts.) scoring halfway through the second quarter; Jeff Hughes (37 pts.) scored twice, once on each side of halftime.
Tough goalkeeping by Marcel Feenstra kept the Silver Knights out of goal in the waning minutes as they took several shots from the three-point line to try and equalize the game to take it to overtime.
Milwaukee’s team chemistry was present as six different Wave players scored the team’s seven goals with Matt Stewart’s final goal giving the Wave a three-point lead with four minutes to play.
The Silver Knights plan to bounce back Sunday night, January 15, with another home game against division rival Norfolk SharX. The game begins at 4:00 PM and can be seen live on MISLLiveSoccer.com.
