The Carrier Dome is in it's forth decade of being one of the most unique College sports venues in the country. The largest on-campus domed stadium in the country will have a new look as it enters it's 33rd season, with the installation of 360-degree ribbon display and multiple LED video boards. The new technology will enhance the fan experience for football, basketball and lacrosse according to SU Athletics.
"This is something we have been working to acquire for some time," said Syracuse Director of Athletics Dr. Daryl Gross. "The new video and ribbon boards will add to the fan experience in the most spectacular way, enhancing live game viewing significantly beyond a family room experience. All of these video displays will dramatically change the atmosphere in the Dome, which is already one of the great venues in the country. Thanks to our partnership with Pepsi all of this new modernized technology and media is possible. The fact that we will have new scoreboards for our Olympic sports, as well, shows our continued commitment to be the best by providing resources that can help our coaches and their programs as they continue to have national success."
According to a release from SU Athletics, the Dome will now feature "several indoor LED video displays and a 360-degree ribbon display installed along the upper fascia of the Dome". All of the video will be displayed in high definition (HD) format. The new integrated system, whick is designed, manufactured and installed by Daktronics Inc. of Brookings, S.D., will be operational by August.
The following details of the enhancement were also included in the statement from SU Athletics.
**The end zones will feature large video displays measuring nearly 21 feet high by more than 40 feet wide. Each of these displays will be flanked by two other displays, measuring more than 12 feet high by 10 feet wide. These displays all utilize Daktronics 20 millimeter pixel spacing. Capable of showing one large image or being divided into separate windows, the video displays will show live and recorded video, up-to-the-minute stats, crowd-pleasing graphics and animations and sponsor information.
Daktronics will replace the existing trivision displays, which sit on either side of two existing video displays, with new 20 millimeter displays measuring more than 9 feet high by 10 feet wide. Six other smaller displays will be installed at the concourse entryways and at the player entrances. In addition, a portable truck display to be positioned behind sections 123-124 for basketball games featuring 16 millimeter pixel spacing, delay of game clocks and two time and temperature displays, will be installed in the Carrier Dome. All of these displays join the scorer's tables Daktronics supplied in 2008.**
The upgrade will not be limited to the Carrier Dome. There will also be a new scoreboard and message display installed at the SU Soccer Stadium, as well as similar enhancements to SU's home volleyball court. New Daktronics scoreboards will also be installed at Coyne Field, where the SU field hockey team plays, the SU Softball Stadium and Tennity Ice Pavilion, home of the Orange ice hockey team.
