National Signing Day is still about seven months away, but the SU Football Team and head coach Doug Marrone are already making some major noise on the recruiting trail. Perhaps the loudest of that activity occurred on Tuesday morning when Augustus Edwards announced from Tottenville High School in Staten Island that he plans on signing with the Syracuse Orange. The 6-foot-1, 220 pound Edwards is a star running back, known for his speed and Delone Carter like style of scrapping for each and every yard. He ran for 995 yards and 10 touchdowns this passed season, helping to lead his school to the division semifinal of New York's Public School Athletic League. His teammate in Staten Island Alvin Cornelius will be a freshman on the SU hill this upcoming year.
The commitment of Edwards is an especially good sign for the SU Football team as he picked the Orange over about a dozen offers including a number of big Atlantic Coast Conference schools like Maryland, Virginia, Miami, Boston College and NC State. According to Cuseconfidential.com, a big reason why he chose the Orange is his relationship with Doug Marrone's staff, who have been recruiting him since he was a sophomore. SU's move to the ACC is also said to be an important factor.
Even more good news may also come from Edward's decision, as many feel four star defensive end Ebenezer Ogundeko hopes to go to the same College as his friend Edwards. Ogundeko is choosing between Notre Dame, Florida and Syracuse.
