SYRACUSE -- A cold front brought dark clouds, pounding rain and even some lightning Friday night, creating a direct impact on week 3 of Section III high school football. Several games were delayed because of the downpours, resulting in soaking wet turf, both grass and artificial, and footballs. As a result, Section III running backs had a field day, many notching over 150 yards with multiple touchdowns.
In one of the most anticipated matchups of the week, Fayetteville-Manlius visited Baldwinsville, where Tyler Rouse ran wild, gaining 267 yards and three touchdowns. But, F-M's all around attack was too much, resulting in a 34-25 F-M victory.
Chittenango visited a rainy Marcellus in a Class B matchup, and dominated much of the turnover filled game, beating the Mustangs by 23 points, 29-6.
West Genesee's Nasean Howard was another running back who had a good night, rushing for 272 yards on 23 carries, scoring six total touchdowns. Central Square's Malcolm Anderson bested Howard in yardage, with 274 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns. West Genesee was too much though, defeating Central Square 46-28.
