The Syracuse Orange Football team are one touchdown underdogs heading into this weekend's game with Rutgers, but they're hoping their newly established goal-line package nicknamed "Tank" will help them take full advantage of red zone opportunities, something that plagued them heading into the Pittsburgh game. While the SU offense only has two touchdowns total over the last two games, they were able to squeeze out a 14-13 win over Pittsburgh this passed Friday thanks, in part, to a touchdown from their new package featuring fullback Lewellyn Coker making space for running back Adonis Ameen-Moore.
"Somebody tells you, you can just go in and score a touchdown," explains Ameen-Moore, "I mean that's most definitely going to be fun. So that's gonna make me (motivated) through the whole game anyway."
"Adonis ran great, he ran hard," says senior tackle Justin Pugh, "and that's all you can ask out of the offensive lineman we just try to get enough push so he can make us look good."
Ameen-Moore's new responsibilities not only came in handy on the scoreboard, but were also very affective down the stretch of a close defensive game.
"It won the game for us," admits Ryan Nassib, "I mean when it came down to it at the end we brought that goal line package into the field so we could eat up some clock. I mean it won the game for us so thank god we had a couple weeks to see what we liked or to see what we were good at, and that's definitely going to be a helpful package for us."
"I think the offensive coaches have done a nice job," says SU Head Coach Doug Marrone, "and from a personnel standpoint, I'm very very pleased with Adonis and he has worked extremely hard to be in that position. It's obviously a very important position so its one that you have to have a high level of trust, and the coaches and the players have that in Adonis."
