Syracuse has the opportunity to play in three possible bowls: New Era Pinstripe, Belk, and Russell Athletic. There is a complicated process where the Orange could qualify for a BCS bowl with a share of a Big East championship, but it's a safe bet every SU fan would want that. So, outside of the BCS here are the three possible destinations.
The Pinstripe Bowl is a Big East versus Big 12 matchup taking place at Yankee Stadium and is the site of the Orange’s last bowl appearance; a 2010 victory over Kansas State . The ironic thing here is that some projections have Syracuse playing its old arch rival West Virginia in this game.
Before you book your trip to the Bronx remember that the other two options- the Belk and Russell Athletic are ACC owned bowl games. The ACC could push for Syracuse, one of its members starting next year to be featured in one of those games. It's exactly what happened against Syracuse's favor in 2004 when the ACC pushed for Boston College to be in the Belk Bowl (the former Meineke Car Care Bowl/Continental Tire Bowl).
The Belk Bowl is held at Bank of America Stadium, home to the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte, NC. This bowl has the 3rd pick of Big East teams versus the ACC's #5 team.
The Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando is another Big East vs. ACC matchup. This bowl has its pick of the first Big East team after the BCS and could be another bowl in which the ACC could show off Syracuse. So, in other words, ignore SU's 3rd/4th place finish in Big East standings. By finishing 5-2 in conference play, Syracuse can be in any Big East bowl, with an outside chance of the BCS.
