SYRACUSE -- It may not get the publicity as some other high school rivalries, but Marcellus and Westhill share a rivalry that spans several different sports.
On Tuesday, it was to the hardwood at Westhill's "King's Court" as it's called. The Warriors raced to an early 20-7 lead, but in Syracuse-like fashion, Marcellus rallied. The Mustangs scored 12 straight points over a 5 minute stretch in the 2nd quarter to close the gap to one at 20-19. Westhill would send home a three pointer in the final minute of the half to extend their advantage to 23-19 at halftime. The second half was just as close, and it proved to not be enough time as the game went to overtime, where Marcellus took the victory 47-45.
A battle of the city schools featured Henninger and Nottingham, with Robert Dixon's Bulldogs earning a big victory 58-52 over the Black Knights.
In girls basketball, Cortland made the trek north on I-81 to Fowler, The Purple Tigers outscored the Falcons by 12 points in the first quarter and never looked back on their way to a 62-45 victory.
