Syracuse, NY (February 27, 2010) – Although Syracuse dominated much of the action throughout the game and outshot Springfield by a 36-20 margin, Chad Wiseman’s game-winner with just 19 seconds left in regulation gave Springfield a narrow 2-1 win over the Crunch tonight at the War Memorial at Oncenter.

Springfield netminder Devan Dubnyk stopped 35 of 36 shots and had some help from a couple of goal posts along the way.

Chris Minard opened the scoring for Springfield on the power play at the 7:36 mark of the first period when he re-directed a Chris Armstrong point shot through Kevin Lalande to make it 1-0.

The score stayed that way until nine and a half minutes into the second stanza when Tomas Kana found the back of the net for his 13th goal of the season.

The Crunch’s top trio featuring Kana, Derek MacKenzie and Alexandre Picard cycled the puck behind the Springfield net, where Picard corralled it and fed Kana out at the hash marks.  Kana snapped a shot inside the left post off a lightning quick release that beat Dubnyk blocker side to knot the score at 1-1.

Syracuse took the game over after that, firing everything they had at the Calgary, Alberta native.  The Crunch outshot Springfield 26-10 over the game’s final 40 minutes, but to no avail as Dubnyk stood tall.

Springfield’s penalty killers put together a lunch pale effort, denying all seven of the Crunch’s power play opportunities in the contest to help in the 2-1 win.

The Crunch get right back on the ice tomorrow afternoon for a 3 p.m. matinee match-up with division rival Norfolk at the War Memorial at Oncenter.
