SYRACUSE -- Former Syracuse Orangeman star and current Detroit Mayor Dave Bing was in town Wednesday.

Bing gave the keynote address for the 7th annual Whitman Day.  SU was honoring the namesake of the Whitman School of Management, Martin Whitman, from the class of 1949.

Bing played for the Orangeman with current head coach Jim Boeheim.  Now, as mayor of Detroit, he says Syracuse and the Motor City share a lot of the same problems and he has been exchanging ideas with Syracuse mayor Stephanie Miner.

Dave Bing is the founder of Bing Group, an automotive supply company.
