Lopez Lomong won the National Championship by less than a tenth of a second in the 1500 meter race on Sunday, just the latest accomplishment in a life full of overcoming the odds. Lomong of course, is one of the lost boys from Sudan, who found refuge in Central New York. Settling in Tully, he was an instant star on the track field for the Knights. He still visits Tully on a regular basis, in fact he was training at the high school track as recently as last week.

We caught up with Lopez on the phone Monday, where he says he is always grateful to Central New York and hopes he does enough for the community to hold a parade for him again. Something tells me he's already earned that.
