The Fayetteville-Manlius Hornets are off to their best start since 2005.

If they keep playing how they did Friday, they'll enjoy their best season since 2002.

Matt Moro led the way with three touchdowns, Andrew Fletcher and Sean Bright also rushed for scores. Bryan Hill returned a kickoff for a touchdown and John Wittig tossed one for 6 points as the Hornets rolled past previously undefeated Utica-Proctor 49-13 at F-M High School.

With the win, F-M is 4-0 for the first time since 2005, and no question, many are wondering if this team can repeat the feat they accomplished in 2002 when Damien Rhodes led them to a New York State Championship. Damien is now an assistant coach for F-M.

The defense was stifling all night, lineman Daniel Murphy smothered Proctor QB Jordan Treen a couple times in a game that saw the Raiders score early in a 7-6 ball game, but held scoreless until very late in the contest.

"I'm proud because we did it on the ground" said F-M Head Coach Paul Muench. The coach added "Our kids fought hard. Utica's a good team and they hit some early passes, got the quick score and you know we had to weather some good defensive drives by them. I'm just proud we put together four solid quarters and we just got stronger as they game went on and that makes you particularly proud as a coach."

The Hornets' quest to remain undefeated continues when winless Auburn comes to Manlius next Friday. After that, F-M rounds out the regular season with a huge showdown at Corcoran on October 8th and a regular season finale at home against Liverpool.
