MANLIUS -- Fayetteville-Manlius High School senior Brian Ward is a great example, not just for local student-athletes, but all students in Central New York.

Ward's grandmother passed away from pancreatic cancer nine months ago, certainly a tough thing for anyone of any age to deal with, let alone a teenager. Ward's response is what sets him apart.

He decided to hold a "Pink Out", similar to what the Hornets' basketball team has done, to fight breast cancer. He scheduled the event in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, made the calls to line up the event, including his team's opponent from Christian Brothers Academy, and this past weekend everything was a rousing success.

The event raised over $2,800 dollars via selling more than 400 pink T-shirts and concessions.
