Hornets remain undefeated at 6-0, Corcoran falls to 5-1
This week's Toyota High School Game of the Week lived up to its billing and more. The battle of the unbeatens featured F-M traveling to Lynch Ave to take on Corcoran. The teams battled to an even 7-7 tie pretty much most of the first half, until with time winding down John Wittig faked out everyone on the play action, and found his man Louis Muraco for the score and the 14-7 halftime lead.
Corcoran would respond in the 2nd half, when Delvon Adams broke free from just inside the ten yard line for the touchdown. The Hornets though, smothered the 2-point conversion attempt, so Corcoran would settle for being down 14-13. In the 4th quarter the Hornets expanded their lead when their senior leader Matt Moro plowed past the pylon for a short touchdown, giving F-M a 21-13 lead. That score was set up by a muffed punt, that F-M recovered deep in Cougars territory.
Corcoran had the turnover bug bite them a couple more times, both on what could have been game tying drives. Chao Porch broke free into F-M territory for what would have been a first down but in a weird and certainly rare occurance, he collided with the referee whose hand knocked the ball loose, and F-M recovered. After the Cougar "D" made the stop, Corcoran had another chance stopped when Matt Moro came up with an interception.
The Cougars have nothing to hang their heads over, they played a great game, and are still 5-1 on the season. F-M meanwhile, improves to 6-0 and faces a tough Liverpool team in its season-finale.
