Professional hockey has returned to Rome.

The Federal League's Rome Frenzy took the ice for their home opener Wednesday night against the Akwesasne Warriors.

The Frenzy took a 2-1 lead into the 2nd period on goals by Aleksandr Andrusovich and Vince Nucci, but Rome could not hold on, dropping the home opener 6-3.

Though the team didn't get the result they wanted, Frenzy owner and GM Brian Hall says it was a great night for hockey in Rome.

"The area has a strong hockey history, it's been a lot of fun," Hall says. "We've brought in a lot of talent from literally around the world because the area deserves a quality product and I believe that's what we put on the ice."

Hall also says the line to get into the game was out the door.

The Frenzy play their home games in the J.F. Kennedy Civic Arena.
