LAFAYETTE -- John Schneible is a leader in more ways than one for the LaFayette basketball team.
The small forward leads the Lancers in scoring and is a senior captain.
Schneible is scoring an average of 15 points a game, even more impressive when you consider he didn't play much as a junior.
He has no problem taking on the brunt of the scoring responsibility, as long as the team is winning.
"I try to do the scoring as much as I can, but as long as we're winning, that's all that matters," Schneible says.
It didn't take Schneible's teammates long to figure out he is the go to guy. The Lancer's point guard says there's always a chance something special will happen when Schneible touches the ball.
"I always know when I'm playing point guard that if I give him the ball there's a pretty good opportunity we're going to score a basket," senior Victor DuPuis says. "He always shares the ball and we feed off each other when we're out there."
Head coach Jerry Kelly says Schneible's leadership is just as important as the points he scores. Kelly says the team was hit hard by graduation last year, and Schneible has helped fill the void.
"Every year you need someone to step up and replace the leaders from the year before, and John was challenged to be a leader, not only on the court but off the court, and he's done a nice job of becoming a leader," Kelly says.
Congratulations to John Schneible, this week's Bryant and Stratton CNY Central Athlete!
