OCC women capture second straight conference title

SYRACUSE -- The Onondaga Community College women’s basketball team captured its second consecutive Mid-State Athletic Conference title with a big home court victory over Corning Community College in the tournament’s championship game on February 20.

The Lazers, ranked #5 in NJCAA Division III national play, defeated Corning 74-45 to extend their overall winning streak to 21 games and their winning streak against conference opponents to 31 games.  

Freshman Shalisia Jackson, of Syracuse, was named Tournament MVP and led the Lazers with a team-high 12 points and eight rebounds. Prior to defeating Corning, Onondaga squared off against Finger Lakes Community College in the tournament semi-finals, where Jackson posted a double-double and led the Lazers to an 89-59 victory.

Onondaga will travel to Tompkins Cortland Community College this Friday, February 25 to participate in the Region III tournament. 

The Lazers, seeded #1 overall in the tournament, tip off at 6 p.m. against the winner of an opening match between Broome Community College and Corning Community College.

The Region III championship game will be played on Sunday, February 27 at 1 p.m.
