Tuesday marks the beginning of spring practice for the Syracuse University football team. This was the first time the Orange has taken the field since their victory over Kansas State in the Pinstripe Bowl in January.
Head Coach Doug Marrone joined the team on the turf inside Manley Field House Tuesday afternoon.
Marrone says expectations are high this year, but he's stressing to his team not to forget how much work they need to put in to duplicate last year's success.
"When you win, it feels good, and you get hungry," Marrone says. "I think for us as coaches, it's important for us to make sure the players understand how hard it is to win."
Defensive end Chandler Jones says it feels great to be back on the field, coming off such a successful season last year.
"The last time I put that helmet on, we were walking off Yankee Stadium as Pinstripe Bowl Champions," Jones says. "So it feels good just to have our helmet back on and to be back at it."
SU has some gaps to fill this season with the loss of running back Delone Carter, and linebackers Doug Hogue and Derrell Smith, among others.
Marrone released the first depth chart of the season, which shed some light on who some of those replacements will be.
It's no surprise to see senior Antown Bailey listed as the starting tailback. Bailey is the Orange's leading returning rusher with 554 yards on the ground in 2010.
Senior Dan Vaughan and sophomore Brice Hawkes fill the two vacated linebacker spots.
Sophomore Macky MacPherson, the grandson of former Orange coach Dick MacPherson, gets the starting nod at center.
Here's the full spring practice depth chart.Practices will continue Thursday and Friday of this week, and then again after spring break. They are all open to the public.
