Syracuse, N.Y. - Senior All-American midfielder Matt Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) scored four goals and dished out an assist to lead the third-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to a 14-2 win over Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins scored three times in the opening 9:01 of the game for the only goals they would need. Following a failed clear by the Hawks, senior attackman Jack Harmatuk (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Syracuse U.) got the Dolphins on the board with his seventh goal of the year. The tally marked the 37th straight game that Harmatuk has found the back of the net. Just over a minute later, redshirt junior midfielder Tyler Sennett (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) converted his fifth goal of the year after senior defensive midfielder Jikado Hanna (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton/Bridgton Academy) caused a turnover behind Le Moyne's goal. Chadderdon capped the scoring in the first quarter with 5:59 remaining with an unassisted goal. After a two-minute possession by the Dolphins early in the second quarter, Chadderdon recorded his fourth goal of the campaign at the 12:09 mark. Graduate student midfielder Mike Rabbitt (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) got in the scoring column for the year with 11:23 left after Hanna knocked the ball out of the stick of Tyler Steinetz and picked up the loose ball. Following six minutes of scoreless action, Chadderdon completed his hat trick off a restart after a missed shot.
Andrew Messner got the Hawks on the scoreboard with 3:43 remaining in the half after curling around the right side of the goal from behind the cage. Sennett extended Le Moyne's lead back to six goals with 1:47 left after a save by Saint Anselm goalkeeper Pat Acone. Senior attackman Vinnie Alexander (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) scored with one second remaining in the quarter with a diving shot from the right side of the crease. Le Moyne increased its lead to 11-1 with three goals over the opening 5:55 of the third quarter. Senior attackman Jack Venditti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) notched his 10th goal of the campaign a minute in the quarter off a crossing pass from Alexander. Only 50 seconds later, Sennett scored his team's 10th tally of the game with an unassisted goal. Just over four minutes later, Venditti scored in an extra-man opportunity off a pass from Chadderdon for his team-best 11th goal of the year. Defenseman Tom Gardner got the Hawks back within single digits by scoring from the left side of the goal at the 4:31 mark with his long-pole. Chadderdon answered back two minutes later to restore the double-digit lead off a pass from senior midfielder Nick DiSarro (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna). Harmatuk and Alexander hooked up for a pair of goals in the fourth quarter to deliver the final score. Harmatuk scored inside the left post from the crease at the 13:30 mark after taking a pass across the crease from Alexander. Five minutes and six seconds later, Harmatuk returned the favor by feeding Alexander for his 11th goal to tie Venditti for the team lead. Sophomore goalkeeper Jeff White (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius HS) made one save in 50 minutes of action between the pipes for the win. Acone turned away 16 shots over the first three quarters for the Hawks in taking the loss. Le Moyne (4-1, NE-10 2-0), which squeezed by the Hawks last year, 8-7, on a goal by Harmatuk with 42 seconds remaining to close out the regular season, returns to the field on Wednesday at Pace at 3:30 p.m.
Here's how the Le Moyne women fared:
Syracuse, N.Y. - Sophomore attacker Brenna Bauer (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) registered five points in the first half to lead the fourth-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 19-3 win over Saint Michael's in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins opened the scoring 20 seconds into the contest as Bauer scored from the crease off a pass from the right side of the field by junior midfielder Brittany Brigandi (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy). Just over four minutes later, senior Michelle Phillips (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) curled from behind the goal and scored from the crease after taking a pass from Bauer. After Eliza Scoba scored for the Purple Knights at the 22:16 mark off a pass from Spenser Wolfe, the Dolphins scored 10 straight goals over the final 21:58 of the half. Off the draw following Scoba's goal, Brigandi carried the ball into Le Moyne's offensive end on the left side and fed freshman Victoria Nies (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt), who scored after driving to the goal from 10 yards out at the 21:58 mark. Just over one minute later, Bauer netted her second goal of the contest from the crease off a give-and-go with Nies. After getting the subsequent draw, Phillips tallied her seventh goal of the year rolling to her left in front of the goal off a pass from classmate Nerissa Barzee (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker). After 6:16 of scoreless action, Barzee increased Le Moyne's lead to 6-1 by converting a free-position shot. Twenty-nine seconds later, Brigandi registered her 18th goal of the season from the right side of the crease after racing towards the goal from midfield. Senior defender Katlin Walker (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) won the following draw and weaved her way through the Saint Michael's defense before scoring her third goal of the campaign. Sophomore Kelly Condon (Victor, N.Y./Canandaigua) had a hand in the next two goals for the Dolphins. She scored from the right crease at the 9:01 mark after curling from behind the goal off a feed from Bauer. At the 7:06 mark, senior Rebekah Elmer (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) took a pass from the right side from Condon and drove to the goal for her 10th goal of the year.
Following a Saint Michael's turnover, Walker scored with 2:25 remaining in the half after taking a pass from Elmer. Bauer closed out the scoring in the half with three seconds left after a failed clear by the Purple Knights. The Dolphins increased their lead to a game-high 16 goals with five tallies over the opening 12:11 of the second half. After Elmer won the first draw of the second half, she got the ball back from Phillips and scored her 95th career goal, the 12th-best total in the program's history. Less than two minutes later, senior Mia Valletta (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) tallied an unassisted goal. Brigandi posted Le Moyne's 15th goal of the game at the 25:07 mark, while Barzee netted her second free-position goal of the contest at the 22:36 mark.
