After UConn won the college basketball National Title, many Central New Yorkers thought a chance at a Natiopnal Title was over for the area.

That's not the case.

The Syracuse Nationals, a local 12-and-under girls hockey team won the New York State Championship, and left Tuesday for Detroit where they'll be among 12 teams playing for it all. The team is consisted of girls from all over Central New York- Central Square, Homer, Jamesville, and basically everywhere in between.

It's mighty impressive the Nationals were able to make it to this stage, given there are over 70 teams that play "Tier-1" girls hockey like the Nationals, let alone the many more that comprise all the 12-and-under teams. What's more amazing is that the team is only in its 2nd year of existence, beating teams that have been around for decades.

Stay tuned to CNYCentral.com, we'll pass along the team's results as they come into us.
