Five Section III Softball teams heading to States

Top-seeded Cicero North Syracuse shut out West Genesee on Saturday at in the Section III Class AA Softball Title Game at Hopkins Road Park in Liverpool. Pitcher Sidney O'Hara struck out nine players, allowing only three hits and three walks. All seven of C-NS' runs were scored in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brittney Paul, Samantha Cirillo, and Sarah Salamone drove in two runs each for C-NS. The Northstars will now have home field advantage as they play for the State Championship at C-NS on Tuesday against Section II's Bethlehem.

Class A Phoenix shut out New Hartford 8-0. Julia Gilbert drove in 3 RBI, including a homerun for Phoenix. Brittney Sears pitched the shut out with 8 strikeouts, allowing only 2 hits and one walk.

Class B Adirondack took out Central New York's Solvay 9-4. Rachel Hitt struck out two players and allowed one walk.

Sandy Creek was shut out by South Lewis 5-0 in Class C. Pitcher Jenna Kraeger was the winning pitcher, striking out seven and allowing only one walk. Abby Black and Lindsey Croneiser each brought two players across home plate for the Falcons.

In the other Class C game Hamilton beat Stockbridge Valley 11-2.
