Largest Challenge Since 2001 on Onondaga Lake Parkway
There were over 7,000 participants and over 260 companies participating in the 29th Chase Corporate Challenge on Onondaga Lake Parkway on Tuesday night. That being the largest turnout since 2001, it was that much more satisfying to actually win the race.
Fred Josyln of East Syracuse was the male winner. Representing Fleet Feet, he finished the three and a half mile course in 16 minutes and 58 seconds. That's just three seconds off the course record.
"I had great competition," said Josyln, "Andrew Foxenberg ran on me for the first half of the race, really pushed it, took it out hard, so it was a great day to be at the park and enjoy the city."
The female winner was National Grid's Eileen Ferguson of Lafayette, who was clocked in at 20 minutes 39 seconds. It was Ferguson's 3rd all-time victory, having last won in 2007.
"It's amazing to see how many people know my name that I probably don't even know, or haven't seen in years, " said an emotional Ferguson after the race, "they just recognize me. They're more motivating than anything to watch all these people on a hot night who probably don't do this all the time."
