SYRACUSE (AP) -- Promising Syracuse recruit Ashton Broyld is not on campus for the Orange's summer football program, and head coach Doug Marrone says he doesn't see the star quarterback from Rush-Henrietta's state championship team joining the team this year.
Marrone said through the school's sports communications department that both Broyld, Class AA State Player of the Year, and running back Tyree Smallwood of Cornwall High School "have work to do."
Broyld, who accepted an athletic scholarship from Syracuse in February, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct last week. He was charged with a misdemeanor for gestures toward spectators after a basketball game in March, but Marrone said Broyld's status was not affected by the court appearance.
Smallwood's issues are academic-related.
